OUR POST

VFW Post 5352 was chartered on January 7, 1946 and is made up of combat veterans who served in one of the United States armed forces consisting of the Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard. As a fraternal order, we not only benefit comradery with one another, but volunteer our time, labor and expertise to bring a wide range of services to benefit our active-duty military members and other veterans with their families in our community.

About Oscar L. Joyner Jr.
 
Oscar L. Joyner Jr., the son of Dr. and Mrs. O L Joyner of Kernersville. Born on January 8, 1919 graduated from Kernersville High School in 1936 and went on to Davidson College, where he was in the ROTC program. After graduating in 1940, he joined the Army and served in the U.S. 4th Infantry Division. In 1942 Captain Joyner was one of 18 officers, representing 18 divisions, selected for intensive Commando training in the British Isles. Upon his return to the United States he directed Ranger training for his division, and wrote the manual used in this work. He went overseas in January 1944, and was in one of the first waves that landed on Utah Beach during the D-Day invasion of Normandy on June 6th, 1944. Soon afterward, he was appointed battalion commander. He was killed in action June 22,1944, when his Jeep was ambushed during hedgerow fighting on the front lines. He is buried in France.

On behalf of the Oscar L. Joyner Jr. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5352, allow me to welcome and encourage you to come visit the post during our operating hours or at our next scheduled event.

Our organization is made up of combat veterans in partnership with our Auxiliary members, who volunteer time, labor and expertise to bring a wide range of services to benefit our active-duty military members and veterans along with their families within our community.

If you are currently serving in the military or a veteran who served Honorably during one of the listed campaigns, I encourage you to come visit our post during operating hours and become an active member in our organization.
